How to Prevent Bad Breath


Halitosis  means bad breath, unpleasant sell and have a pungent smell. In many cases, generally bad breath can be overcome by maintaining oral health hygiene. However, if that method cannot solve the problem, it is necessary to consult with a dentist to figure out any serious problem may occur.

Bad breath is not a desease, but it can be a sign of certain disease and it might have affected to self confident, self image and social problem. therefore, it needs special attention and management to overcome bad breath.

The cause of bad breath could be local or general factors. Local factors are poor oral hygiene, dental caries, the inflammation of gum and tooth supporting tissue, tartar, infection, crowded teeth, smoking habit, alcohol, etc. The common causes could be from an unhealthy condition such as diabetes mellitus, indigestion, etc. Phychologycal can also drive someone to have a bad breath.


These are how to avoid bad breath:

1. Brush teeth and tongue immediately after meal is one of of the easier thing to keep our mouth clean.  Do scalling regularly every six month including dental check up. Use mouthwash and gargle to rinse and clean the dirt between teeth or area which are hard to reach only by brushing teeth.

2. Drink 8-10 glass of water everyday, to keep the oral cavity wet and to stabilize the body metabolism. In addition, it is recomended to drink green tea because it contains substances that can kill oral bacteria and help eliminating bad breath that caused by bacteria. Chew a Sugarfree buble gum can also help to get rid of bad breath.

3. Eat plenty fruits that rich in vitamins and minerals, such as apples, carrots, and pears. Pear is one of subtropical fruit that are rich in nutrients, low in calories and high in fibers. Fiber in pears can be used as a natural toothbrush which can helo to improve oral hygiene to reduce plaque between teeth. The sour and sweet taste can increase saliva production. The increase of saliva production can help flush out harmful bacteria in the mouth.

4. Avoid bad habit such as smoking and alcohol. Smoking can worsen oral hygiene, which can lead to gingivitis. Alcohol can reduce saliva production that can lead to prone and iritation which ultimately worsen bad breath.
