Different Positions, Different Difficulty Levels

Third molars or wisdom teeth are often a problem because they generally grow sideways, or only grow partially, even buried and not erupting.  This condition is called impaction and often becomes a more serious and bothersome problem later in life.  Impacted wisdom teeth must be treated immediately before they cause problems, namely with a treatment called odontectomy.  What is Odontectomy?  And it turns out that the position of the impacted tooth varies in each person making the level of difficulty in carrying out the procedure different, which in turn makes the treatment price also different.  Loh, how come?  In this article, we will discuss impacted teeth and odontectomy treatment.

The term odontectomy is used in surgery to remove impacted teeth.  Impacted teeth are one of the developmental disorders and the growth of teeth.  Tooth impaction occurs when wisdom teeth grow imperfectly because they do not get enough space to grow and come out of the gums.  This condition can cause wisdom teeth or the last molars to grow sideways, namely toward or away from the adjacent molars, buried teeth, or teeth only partially growing.  This condition can sometimes cause tooth cysts.  Apparently, the impaction condition does not only occur in wisdom teeth, but can also occur in other teeth.

Odontectomy as an effort to remove the impacted tooth is carried out with a surgical procedure that includes making a flap and taking the surrounding bone.  Odontectomy should be performed when the patient is still young, namely at the age of 25-26 years as a prophylactic measure or prevention of pathology.  Odontectomy is easier to perform in younger patients when the crown has just formed, the surrounding bone tissue is still soft enough so that surgical trauma is minimal.  Odontectomy in patients aged over 40 years, the bones are very hard and less elastic, there has also been ankylosis of the teeth or the fusion of teeth in their sockets, causing greater surgical trauma.

Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, impacted teeth do not always cause symptoms.  However, if wisdom teeth become infected, damage other teeth, or other dental problems occur, you may experience symptoms.

- Signs or symptoms of a growing wisdom tooth, including:

- The gums and the back of the jaw hurt when touched with the tongue or when brushing teeth.

- The gums on the back look red, swollen, and even festering.  This condition of swollen gums is known as pericoronitis.

- There is pain around the problem tooth.

- Swollen gums make the face look asymmetrical.

- Difficulty opening mouth.

- There is pain in the joint in front of the ear.  Not infrequently the pain also radiates to the head.

The position of impacted wisdom teeth varies from person to person, so the treatment is not always the same.  Classification of the position of impacted wisdom teeth can be distinguished based on the relationship with the mandibular ramus, the inclination (angulation) of the wisdom teeth.  That is why, the position of impacted wisdom teeth is partially erupted, buried, tilted, or even buried in a tilted, horizontal or more extreme direction.  In addition, the varying root shape also determines the level of difficulty in the odontectomy procedure.  This causes the price difference between one impaction case and another impaction case.

Supportive examinations in the form of dental x-rays and consultation with a dentist or oral surgeon are very important.  The dentist will explain in detail about the impaction condition you are experiencing, the odontectomy procedure to be performed, to the estimated cost of the treatment you will receive.  So, don't be shy or embarrassed to ask the estimated cost for dental care that you will get.  BIA (Bali Implant Aesthetic) Dental Center is a trusted dental clinic near Kuta and not far from the airport.  Don't let dental problems ruin your holiday in Bali, if you are enjoying the beautiful views of Ubud and unexpectedly need a dentist, the distance from Ubud to BIA (Bali Implant Aesthetic) Dental Center is approximately 35 km.  Entrust your dental care to the dentist at the best dental clinic in Bali of your choice.
