Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.  

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.  Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. 

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. 

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.


A. Prevention Standards for Medical Staff

  1. Always wash your hands with soap under running water and / or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer after doing anything (recommended in every 30 minutes).

  2. Do not touch the eye, nose, mouth area if the condition of the hands are still dirty.

  3. If a patient suddenly coughs or sneezes, always maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter (4 feet), then give a mask and explain in detail.

  4. All staff must know the ethics of coughing sneezing, covering the mouth with a tissue and immediately throwing it into the trash can. And also cover the arm area in the shirt when coughing or sneezing.

  5. If there are staff who have flu symptoms, shortness of breath, fever with body temperature above 38 degrees Celsius, it is recommended not to work until conditions are healthy and stable.

  6. If there are staff who have flu symptoms but there is no fever conditions, they can work but must wear a mask.

  7. Disinfecting all areas during the night shift after all the services done and the morning shift before the patients come.

    1. In the area of ​​the treatment room, sterilize all medical devices according to SOP, clean cabinets, chairs, tables, keyboards, mouse, and furniture.

    2. Cleaning the receptionist area includes stationery, cellphones, keyboards, mouse, laptops, tables, chairs, door handles, and other tools in that area.

    3. Cleaning the bathroom area: clean the flush lever, door handles, taps, and others.

    4. Clean the X-ray room area.

    5. Gadgets: Cellphone screens, Laptop screens, computer screens, keyboards and mouse or any sensors that come in contact with hands, swipe using alcohol.

  8. Air circulation must be good.

    1. When there is no patient in the operating room with the door open, except the night when the clinic closes, the entire door is closed.

    2. Morning shift must open the door from 8-9 am.

    3. Every morning and night must spray the room with disinfectant water.


B. Prevention Standards for Patients

  1. CHECK THE BODY TEMPERATURE

    • Before entering the room the body temperature will be checked using a thermometer.

    • Not allowed to enter the room if the body temperature is more than 38° C.

    • If the patient's body temperature is more than 38° C due to signs and symptoms of dental disease then they are allowed to enter (BIA staff will analyze first).

  2. MUST USE A MASK

    • If you have signs and symptoms of flu, but your body temperature is stable. If you don't have a mask, BIA Staff will provide a mask for free.

  3. TELL US IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN TRAVELED IN THE LAST 14 DAYS TO COUNTRIES AFFECTED BY THE CORONA VIRUSES

    • If staff / patients have traveled to a corona-infected country and are experiencing flu symptoms, it is not permitted to enter and advised to make a new schedule after conditions have stabilized and improved.

  4. MUST CLEAN THE HANDS

    • Clean your hands by using the Hand Sanitizer before entering the room.

  5. GET THE HEALTH CHECKED STICKER

    • If the patient has followed the 1-4 procedure and passed the examination then they will get a health sticker checked
