Teeth Bleaching Procedure: whiter as white as celebrity teeth

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a very effective way to whiten the natural color of your teeth without removing the layers of teeth.

Why would I need my teeth whitened?

There are several reasons why your teeth need to whiten teeth. Every person is unique; and the color of our hair and skin varies, so does our teeth. Very few people have really bright white teeth, and the color of our teeth can change color as we age.

The surface of your teeth can also be stained by food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine and other foods or drinks that have strong coloring agents. Even smoking can stain teeth. Stains on these types of teeth are called extrinsic stains.

Calculus or tartar can also affect the color of your teeth. Some people may have stains on the inner layer of teeth (intrinsic), which can be caused by certain antibiotics or by small cracks in the teeth that absorb color stains.

How is the procedure?

Teeth whitening done by professionals is the most common method of teeth whitening. Your dentist will be able to tell you whether you are suitable for this tooth whitening treatment or not. If appropriate, treatment will be carried out under the supervision of a dentist professional.

There are two types of teeth bleaching based on the location of the process, namely:

1. Bleaching in the office, namely dental bleaching performed at the dentist's clinic. The processing time is quite short, which is only about two hours. In the process, the patient's gum will be covered with a protective material before the whitening material is applied to the teeth. In-office bleaching treatments are usually followed by home bleaching treatments to get maximum results.

2. Home bleaching is teeth whitening done in a patient's home. The dentist will do dental molding, then put a whitening agent on the tooth mold. After that, the mold is installed on the teeth with the rules of use according to the dentist's instructions.

The active ingredients of teeth whitening are usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. When the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen enters the tooth enamel and the teeth become lighter color.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

Costs will vary from one clinic to another and from one city to another city. Teeth whitening using light will be more expensive than whitening without light. We recommend that you ask the estimated cost directly to the dentist who treats you before you begin any treatment.

How long will my teeth be whiter?

The whitening effect is estimated to last for up to three years. However, this will be different from one person to another person. The effects tend to last as long as you don't smoke, or don't eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Ask your dentist's opinion before you start treatment.

What are the side effects?

Some people may find their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after treatment. Other people may experience gum discomfort, sore throat or white patches on the gum line. These symptoms are usually temporary and will disappear within a few days after treatment is complete.

If one of these side effects persists, you should go to the dentist.

What about commercially available teeth whitening tools or materials?

How effective this is depends on the amount of bleach it contains. For safety, make sure you buy products that are already registered with the Food and Drug Administration. But you have to be careful because some kits sold over the internet may contain acids and can erode tooth surfaces.

Bleaching products that are sold freely are indeed cheaper but are not always considered safe and tend to be more acidic. So there is a possibility this product can damage your teeth and gums. Because teeth whitening is a complicated procedure, we recommend that you always consult a dentist before starting treatment.

How safe is teeth whitening in a beauty salon?

In Europe and in several other countries, teeth whitening can only be done legally by dentists. So teeth whitening is done by beauty experts and whitening salons are illegal. In Europe, it is illegal to supply bleach containing more than 0.1% peroxide (or the equivalent of carbamide peroxide) to anyone other than dentists, or directly to the public.

In Indonesia itself there is a Medical Practice Act which states that it is illegal to practice using methods and materials that resemble doctors or dentists. While this teeth whitening material, especially for the type of in-office bleaching, includes hard materials that can only be applied by dentists because their side effects on tooth decay are so great if not done under a professional.

What about whitening toothpaste?

There are some whitening toothpastes on the market. Even though it doesn't change the natural color of your teeth, this ingredient might be effective at removing stains. Therefore, this material can improve your dental hygiene. Toothpaste whitening can also help the effect of teeth whitening done by dentists last longer.

Can one root-filled tooth be whitened?

Yes, can. Sometimes a dead tooth will change color after filling the root canal in the process of root canal treatment (endodontic). If the tooth has treated the root, the channel (which contains nerves) can be reopened. Tooth whitening procedures are carried out by placing whitening ingredients in the teeth. This procedure is called intracoronal bleaching.

When does teeth whitening not work?

Teeth whitening can only brighten the color of your existing teeth and of course only works on natural teeth. This bleaching will not work on all types of 'false' teeth such as dentures, crowns and veneers.

If your dentures are stained or discolored, visit your dentist and ask for cleaning.

How can I take care of my teeth after whitening?

You can help keep your teeth white by reducing the amount of food and drinks you have that can stain teeth. Don't forget, stopping smoking can also help prevent discoloration and staining.
